Anne Bancroft died yesterday of uterine cancer. She was only 73 years old. So many more roles left for her to play. She was an amazing woman and a fantastic actress. Over the course of her long career she was featured in over 60 films and is one of the few people to have an Oscar, Tony and Emmy to her credit.

I have to admit Anne Bancroft was one of my favorites. From Mrs. Robinson to Helen Keller to her flawless performance in Home for the Holiday’s she could do no wrong. Just another actress in a long line, I wish I could have met.

Now everyone just calm down, this is only a rumor. But it looks as though George drop some hints to an insider on making another Star Wars movie. From what I have read so far, it looks as though someone other than Lucas will make the movie(s). Maybe he will turn over his vast empire to one of his kids?

At any rate, at least we will get to see the gang again in yet another film. I hope by the time this happens, a good writer will be employed.

I went to my friendly 7-11 today for a Power Ball ticket. I know the lotto is a complete waste of time. Worse yet it suckers the poorest in our society into giving the little money they have back to the state. But it is up to 180 million and lets face it, I am one of the those poor suckers!

Anyway, while I was in line to get a ticket, I saw Darth Vader in the corner of the store beckoning me. I went over and he handed me a really cool cup with slurpee inside. I have seen some cool slurpee cups over the years but this is the coolest. You need to stop reading and go get yourself one right now!

Here is something on a Star Wars Marathon in Great Briton. It seems they showed all the movies back to back and then the final at midnight! Lucas and the gang attended and gave opening remarks.

12 hours in the Theater!

As many of you may know I am a bit of a sifi-geek. Which I guess is fitting seeing as I work on computers. Last Thursday was a huge day for fans of the Star Wars epic. The final installment “Return of the Sith” was released world wide. I took the day off from the job and the life so I could pay homage.

Chuck had bought our tickets back in the beginning of April for the first show at 12:01 am. Charlie has been talking about seeing this final movie for three years. As soon as the second movie ended he said, “… can we see the last one now”! Needless to say last week Star Wars was all we were talking about.

One of the things I love most about Star Wars, other than Wookie love, is the fan fare that comes with each movie. The event that it has become over the years is so much fun. All the talk and hype to the days and hours before the movie opens. It is one of the many things that make seeing a Star Wars film, opening night, so much fun!

On Thursday, I received a call from a friend saying there was already a substantial line forming at the theater, and what time where we going to show up? This was around 11am and we had not planned on going to the theater until 8 or 9 pm. I got on the phone and called Chuck, he informed me that he would leave early from work to get into line. He was happy not only to leave work but I got the feeling he was hoping for some Star Wars love in-line. What a perfect place to find a girl who likes, loves Star Wars.

Charlie & his friend entered the line at 4:45. The line was 50-80 people deep and already around the building. Originally he had planed to dress as Gwedo, but he was worried about the green makeup and his delicate skin. Plus how many chicks are your going to be able to pick up when covered in green and wearing a mask? Plus Gwedo is a “slow draw” loser.

Chris and I showed up with Pizza about 7pm, I wanted to bring beer but the theater had moved everyone inside. Usually you stand outside waiting, but this year the theater got smart and forced everyone in, where you would have to buy food and drink from them. Needless to say, we only spent $453.45 on concessions this time out. This consisted of two drinks, popcorn and dots!

We got great seats and had a wonderful time. Before the movie started, once seated we had 2 and half more hours, they had trivia and entertainment both of which sucked ass. It was still fun to watch all the different people.

This movie is the best of the new. It is funny and the writing showed much improvement over the last two. The action is non stop and my man Vader is RAD! I will tell you this, I was sad at the end for Anakin. But he got what was coming to him, what a chump. Hey, the next time some old man tells you how it’s going to be, use your brain. To quote “the Emporer is Evil!” duh!

I have seen the movie several times now, once on a digital screen which was the best! I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I can’t wait to see it again. Chuck didn’t find that special Star Wars lady in-line. But he has informed me that he has joined a Star Wars only dating service. I am sure it is only a matter of time until he is in a Galaxy far far away!

In the end I am a little sad. The thought that I have stood in line for the last time for a Star Wars movie is dis-hearting. I know they will re-release them in the theater. But will it be the same as the times before. I hope so!

One special note, Phill you are the KING of Star Wars! My brother saw the movie on opening day 5 times. He didn’t sleep, he ate but only bread and blue milk and he is the current leader. He has since seen it two more times, I think. Phill you are going to have to work hard if you think you can beat Chucks predicted 20 times!

May the Force be with you! (159 million first weekend)

I was so happy when I heard the Academy had chosen Chris Rock to host the Academy Awards. I was also very scared, this kind of event can kill people. Given Rocks performance, his hard hitting edgy comedy; I was a little worried about everyday Americans. Most Americans can’t handle Rock and see him as just another fouled mouth comedian. Of course he is that and more!

I watched the Oscars last evening with all of my closets friends, no I wasn’t alone?!? I have to say I am happy with the turn out. Props to Charlie Kaufman, he deserved that Oscar a couple of years ago. I am just glad he is not going to have to wait as long as Marty. Hillary Swank’s dress, enough said!

Let’s face it the best part of the show was Rock! From his opening monologue about Russell Crow’s acting style to his bashing of Jude Law. Rock was at the top of his game. This morning while reading through the recaps of the last nights show, I was happy to see I was not alone in praising Rock. I agree, Chris Rock not only did a great job but should have an invite for next year already in hand. I know he is no Billy Crystal, LA Times, but he is one funny man!

Looks like Hunter S. Thomson got a gun and ended it yesterday. He was 67 and one crazy guy. I read Fear and Loathing once, when I was a bit younger and have seen some of his other musings. He was out there and I am surprised he made it as long as he did? Men like that seem to take their own life much sooner. I mean come on, you made 67 years you can’t put in a couple of more, to see how it’s all going to turn out?

I don’t want to sound insensitive, too late, maybe he had an illness he didn’t want to face. If that was the case or hell if he just wanted to check out, props!

Over the last week I have been going through some old emails trying to consolidate them into one account. I ran across this email from Matt a few years back about the Death Star. Funny!

After months of speculation, it was confirmed yesterday that the Death Star, the Empire’s vaunted, planet-destroying space station, has added a new, state-of-the-art day care center to its already vast array of capabilities.
The massive four-room day care center, which, according to Grand Moff Tarkin, will “provide a safe and fun learning environment for tots between the ages of one and four,” has already begun spring enrollment and is expected to be fully operational by June 1.
“Nothing can stop the Sunshine Death Star Play and Learning Center,” the Imperial Emperor said via holograph. “With its four classrooms, outdoor playground and experienced staff of licensed day care professionals; no other facility can match its awesome instructive power.”
Though still several weeks away from full strength, the Sunshine Death Star Center is already up and running. Among the most popular activities there are finger-painting, storytime and Duck Duck Goose, which the Emperor often helps lead.
“Feel your hatred flow through you,” he told 3-year-old Jenny Bates, as she energetically chased fellow toddler and “goose” Michael Phillips around the outside of the circle. “Give in to your hatred!”
Disaster was narrowly averted last Friday, when the center took a field trip to the nearby planet Bespin. At the end of the day, minutes into the shuttle ride back to the Death Star, adult chaperone Darth Vader locked eyes with 4-year-old Matthew Schumpert. “Wait,” said Vader, probing deep into the child’s mind. “There is another Schumpert.”
Vader sensed the presence of Katie Schumpert, Matthew’s sister, who was still back at the Bespin gift shop purchasing souvenirs. He ordered the shuttle to turn around and averted an embarrassing situation for the new day care facility.
Vader later added: “Join me, parents looking for a safe, dependable child care alternative, and together we will rule the galaxy.”
In addition to enjoying many fun games and learning activities, children at the Sunshine Death Star Day Care Center have already gotten to witness the destruction of several planets out the center’s giant bay window.
Last Friday, in the middle of a coloring activity, the planet Alderan was blown up, delighting 23 of the 24 children who witnessed the devastating power of the battle station. The sole exception was Libby Phelps, 3, whose family was vacationing in Alderan at the time of its destruction. She was frightened by the loud explosion and began to cry upon realizing that her mother, father and younger sister were now dead. The emperor’s elite squadron of imperial guards leapt to action, removing the girl from the room and giving her some ice cream treats to calm her.

According to Death Star officials, the idea for the center sprang up after a number of parents complained about the lack of quality, affordable child care options on the Death Star.
“As a stormtrooper and father of three, I’m very excited about the new day care center,” Death Star citizen Ralph Sedgwick said. “It’s a safe, nurturing environment, one in which my child will learn.”
Added Gail Lindon: “For years I took my daughter to work because I couldn’t afford a nanny. Do you have any idea how hard it is to operate a tractor beam with a two-year-old pulling at your leg?”
As excited as most are about the new day care center, a few extremists have expressed concern about its proximity to the Death Star’s reactor core.
“There is an opening in the Death Star’s main shaft that leads to the core,” parent and dissenting voice Annette Voss said. “If a small rebel ship were to somehow break through the deflector shield and enter the shaft, it’s possible it could hit the reactor core with a single, well-placed proton torpedo shot and destroy the entire space station.”
Experts, however, scoff at Voss’s theory, dismissing such a shot as “a million to one.”
