Last week Chuck and I attended the Podcast Media Expo in California. This is an annual event for podcast content creators. The goal or intended goal is for all of us to come together in one place and exchange ideas and information. I would like to report it was a success. At least for Chuck and I.
We boarded a plane for the sunny and somewhat smelly city of Ontario, CA on Thursday for what was to be another great adventure with our podcasting friends. We were returning to the conference this year having shed our newbie status of the previous year. On our way into the conference hall that same day, I commented to Chuck that it is was good to be back. Last year had been such a positive experience for us we had been looking forward to a repeat performance.
I am happy to say that it was indeed a success. There were of course a few differences from the previous year. Some good others mildly ungood? Attendance seemed to be lighter. I felt as if there fewer audio podcasters, much to my disappointment. Those kids crack me up. I really missed watching the Harry Potter audio casters berate the rest of the conference. That is just solid entertainment.
The conference floor also seemed a little light on content but still had enough to keep me walking around in circles seeing something new each time. Although that could have more to do with my inability to pay attention and less to do with floor content?
The strong point, the people. My ability to connect face to face with the countless people that I have exchange emails, calls and twits with is awesome. The added plus for me is how easy it is to meet and connect with new people all of which share some common interest. Those are the connections that start something unexpected.
Chuck and I and our fellowship of friends had an amazing time. Our reconnection with our old friends Brogan, Atwood, Rox, Garfield and our new friends Park, Stanberry, Witt, Pistachio and the rest. Reminded me just how import a good community of friends can be. We had a couple of really long nights that equated to little or no sleep. We talked new ideas, old ideas, collaboration and much more. We even had the chance to drink Mimosas with our feet in a hot tub at sunrise. Who says these New Media types dont know how to live. Now I guess we just need to find someone to pay us.
In the coming months the connections we made at the convention this year will strengthen. Some of the people we met will come with us on our journey. While others we will not see till next year. Last year we had the pleasure of meeting Chris Brogan and he has been with us ever since. Love that guy. Hopefully we have made new and lasting connection like that again this year.
Leave me a comment, let me know your thoughts on this years PNME.
Did I mention that someone was carry a pretty nasty sickness that spread like the black plague. Funny how every time I go to an event or conference either someone I know is sick or I end up getting sick. Just once I would like to be bug free.
