There has been so much buzz about the Apple iPhone this last six months I am little burnt. But I will pass on this little tid bit I thought was of interest. It seems that not only is the iPhone a bit lighter than my Blackjack it also will rock a 8 hour battery life. I found this hard to believe as it has a full color screen and wifi which is notorious for sucking the life out of a battery. If this phone can last for 8 hours it really will be the champ!
I am not going to be shelling out the $500 bucks next week for one of these little gems for a couple of reasons. The first of which is that it has no 3G, which is just ridiculous. I am also skeptical about its integration with our friendly windows based aps and exchange based email. Finally, it is a first gen phone. Let the early adopters work through the kinks and bugs. I am waiting for the second gen which I am sure will include 3G and be made of gold!!
Last week while installing some new solar panels on the International Space Station one of the key computers on board failed. Now when I say key, I mean the computer that heats, cools and steers the station in space. Thankfully the US Space Shuttle was docked to the station and fired its thrusters to keep the station in orbit. The computer failure has been sorted by the Russians, they built the thing, but all involved say there is a chance it could happen again.
The European Space Agency has real concern as they are deploying two components of the station this year that run off the same computer system. The Russians are working with the ESA to rectify this problem for the future. The fact of the matter is, according to the article linked below, that no matter what, as the station continues to grow these kind of problems will crop up.
Sk*rt is a Digg like website for women of the web. Instead of covering the world of tech, internet and all things computers. Sk*rt focus more on things chics dig like shopping, hair, shoes and makeup. It is social just like digg, meaning you can post a story of your interest and then get people to vote it up to the front page. The interaction right now is small due to low traffic, but I think this is such a great idea it is bound to take off! The pretty site design, ease of use and pointed content should help to boost this website to fame, fortune and nice new pair of shoes! Plus where else are you going to find a cool quiz on, “what sex is your brain“.
I have had a couple of conversations over the last couple of weeks about MobiTV. So, if you have heard me talk about how cool this is, you can stop reading now.
MobiTV is a service that for around $10 a month delivers TV to your cellphone. This is the holly grail of the telecommunications industry. If everyone could be watching what they want, when they want the world would be a better place. Maybe a better place for the telecoms. Everyone wants video on their phone, except my dad, and most will pay the extra to get it. A new revenue stream, my mouth would be watering too!
MobiTV is delivering video now and from what I have read the quality is not bad. This company along with all the major players are all working on some sort of video delivery service. The only thing holding back the forward movement is of course bandwidth over your phone. Most areas of this country have slow to little high-speed access on their phones. This fact is changing everyday, but we are still years away from full nationwide high-speed access and a TV in every hand.
In the mean time. If you live in a urban area and have a phone capable, check out MobiTV. Let me know what you think. I cant wait to be able to watch live news feeds right from my phone.
If you read the title and do not know what Twitter is or does, you may be a bit out of the loop. I wrote a post on Twitter a couple of weeks ago that might help you understand. Then again it may confuse you even more, I some times have that effect.
I have provided a link to an MSNBC article that talks about Twitter being that new fangled application that the kids are using. That like everything else that is new and hip, it has a hard time being adopted by the generation before it. Which I think is total bullshit, most of my twitter friends are from the generation before last. It is an interesting take on the 140 word, micro blogging fade, but I am not sure how well it was thought out or researched. Just like this blog. ;)
Underwater World in Singapore has recently tag various fish at the aquarium with smart tags. Now why you ask would they tag the fish? Maybe so they could track them if they escaped? No, it so much cooler than anything you could think of at this moment. When a fish swims into view a touch screen displays the type of fish and there bio. No more second guessing what kind of fish. I love technology. Today at least.
Here is one of the coolest ideas I have run across in a long while. I forget now where I heard about it but I have been using it for about a month and it is just fantastic. DailyLit is an email service that will email once a day an excerpt from the book of your choice. They have thousands of books to chose from and the service is one of the easiest things in the world to setup and use. If you are like me and spend more time in front of your computer than with the people in your life. Finding the time to read a book can be a challenge. DailyLit to the rescue. Let me know what you think?
After a long hiatus, Jaws3D, we are seeing the return of the 3D film to theaters throughout the country. Over the next two years you will see many of the major theater chains upgrade their exsisting equipment to accomidate the 3D print.
Last summers Super Man was about 20% 3D, having to take the glasses on and off was no fun. But the 3D effect was awesome! The theaters are charging $2 or more extra for 3D movies, which I think is more than reasonable. This 3D talk has been around for many years. I thought the last time the studios got excited about 3D we would see it everywhere, we didn’t. Maybe this time it is for real. I can’t wait to see the Crying Game II in 3D!!
Earlier this week I came across this cool residential listing search site with a web 2.0 slant. It is fresh out of beta and is jam packed with some really awesome features. Which include, great map integration, rss feed for your search, email updates on sales and new listings in the area of your search and the ability to ask questions about the neighborhood and area you are interested in buying, in real time. There are hand full of other useful features you can check out for yourself on their site.
